THE WORLD Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) has launched a global solidarity campaign calling on workers, trade unions, youth organisations, and supporters worldwide to mobilise in defense of Cuba and demand an end to the longstanding United States blockade against the island nation.
In a letter addressed to its affiliates and supporters, the WFTU Presidential Council announced the international signature collection initiative titled: “Cuba Is Not Alone! – FIRMO POR CUBA” following its meeting held on May 12 and 13, 2026.
The organisation expressed what it described as its “full solidarity and unwavering support” for the Cuban people, praising their resistance in the face of intensified economic pressure and sanctions imposed by the United States.
According to the WFTU, the decades-long U.S. embargo and additional restrictive measures continue to place severe strain on Cuba’s economy and social systems.
The federation said the measures have had significant consequences for living and working conditions across the country, particularly affecting energy supply, healthcare services, transportation, and access to daily necessities.
The federation criticised Washington for maintaining and expanding the blockade despite repeated calls from the international community and resolutions passed by the United Nations General Assembly condemning the sanctions regime.
“The U.S. government continues to intensify the economic war against Cuba,” the WFTU stated in its letter, arguing that the sanctions are aimed at weakening the Cuban economy and undermining the country’s socialist system.
The organisation further accused “imperialist forces and their allies” of attempting to exploit Cuba’s economic difficulties in order to isolate the country internationally and destabilise the Cuban Revolution.
However, the WFTU said the Cuban people and working class continue to demonstrate “dignity, resilience, and determination” in defending their sovereignty and political independence.
Calling for practical international solidarity rather than symbolic statements, the WFTU urged its affiliates to organise and expand participation in the campaign at workplaces, schools, universities, ports, factories, neighbourhoods, and communities around the world.
Under the initiative, supporters are being encouraged to download and print signature collection forms, organise grassroots campaigns, and submit completed signatures to Cuban embassies or consulates in their respective countries.
Organisers are also asking participants to report their activities and the number of signatures collected via email to the campaign coordinators and the WFTU headquarters.
The federation additionally appealed for wider promotion of the online petition and said photographs and updates from campaign activities would be shared across WFTU communication channels.
The printable signature form is available through the campaign platform “Firmo Por Cuba,” which is coordinating the international effort.
The WFTU concluded its statement with renewed calls for global solidarity with Cuba and for an immediate end to the U.S. blockade, describing the campaign as an important act of international worker solidarity during a critical moment for the Caribbean nation.
