TENSION enveloped the Sarkin Noma Community in Kadarko, Keana LGA of Nasarawa State, following an early morning attack on Friday by heavily armed men suspected to be bandits of the notorious Lakurawa bandit group.

Residents said the attackers stormed the community at dawn, shooting sporadically and setting houses ablaze. Two people were reportedly killed, three abducted, while several others sustained injuries during the invasion.

In protest against the incessant attacks, angry farmers and wailing women of the community blocked the Lafia–Makurdi highway, demanding the immediate intervention of Governor Abdullahi Sule to address what they described as a worsening humanitarian and security crisis in the area.

Reacting to the incident, the President of the United Farmers Associations, Kadarko (UFAK), Mr. Dennis Utsa, in a statement, decried the continued killings and called on the state government to take decisive action.

“Governor Sule should end the killings of my vulnerable farmers in the best interest of justice. He is aware of the attackers, their sponsors, and their locations. All we are asking for is for him to act to allow farmers return to their normal lives,” Utsa said.

He further alleged that despite alerting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Sule about the identities and hideouts of the assailants in Kadarko, Giza, Keana, Doma, Tunga, and Obi, no meaningful action had been taken.

“The authorities deliberately refused to treat our complaint or arrest the suspects. We are traumatised, confused, and need help, please,” he added.

When contacted for comment, the Chairman of Keana LGA, Hon. Aboki Adamu, did not respond to phone calls nor did he reply to messages.
