THE SENATE President, Godswill Akpabio, has revealed in a viral video going round in the social media that he and his colleague senators have received an unspecified sum as allowance package for their vacation.
Forgetting that the proceedings were being aired on live camera by the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Akpabio said: “As soon as Senator Umahi takes his oath of office, we shall arrange the office of the leadership.”
“In order to enable all of us to enjoy our holidays, a token has been sent to our various accounts by the clerk of the National Assembly”
Realising the implication of his statement, and after a senator walked up and whispered to him, he withdrew his statement and redirected it to say that the Senate President has sent prayers to their emails to help them enjoy their vacation.
“I withdraw that statement – ‘In order to allow you to enjoy your holiday,’ the senate president has sent prayers to your mailboxes to assist you to go on a safe journey and return”
Though the exact amount sent to the senators is unknown, it has caused lots of stir on different social media platforms as the masses express shock and disappointment at our “so called leaders”
“They are suffocating the poor and breathing” some of the masses commented on twitter.
Being that the development comes amid the nationwide hardship caused by the fuel subsidy removal, which led to the hike of fuel price to N617 as against N197, Nigerians are lamenting on how the leaders asked the masses to make sacrifices while they carry on with extravagant life style
