THE BENUE State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has announced the resumption of its screening exercise for shortlisted applicants in the ongoing teachers’ recruitment process.

This follows the lifting of the suspension by the Benue State House of Assembly.

The announcement for the resumption of the screening exercise was made in a press release issued on Saturday by SUBEB’s information officer, Emmanuella Akese.

The exercise was suspended on December 19, 2024, when the House directed SUBEB Chairperson, Dr. Grace Adagba, to temporarily step aside to allow for an investigation into alleged irregularities in the recruitment process.

The Assembly had earlier ordered the suspension of the exercise due to allegations of manipulation.

In the press release, SUBEB expressed gratitude to the shortlisted applicants for their patience and announced the continuation of the screening exercise.

“The Board and Management of Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) warmly appreciate the patience of all applicants shortlisted for the Teacher Recruitment Exercise.

“The Board is pleased to announce that the continuation of the screening exercise for shortlisted applicants…”, will resume on January 10, 2025; the release stated in part.

When contacted via WhatsApp, the Chairman of the House Standing Committee on Information and Orientation, Hon. Elias Audu, confirmed to our correspondent, the Assembly’s approval for the resumption of the screening exercise.

“Yes, we asked her to continue,” Audu stated.

When further asked about the outcome of the probe and the findings of the assembly before approving the continuation of recruitment process, Hon. Audu said the SUBEB chairman was found blameless and the Assembly acted in the interest of the state.

“First, the committee found out that [she] was empowered by law to do [her] job. Secondly the documents she tendered shows due process.

“However, we do not want to tie down the process longer than necessary, so, the financial aspect is still been investigated. We are also going to follow the remaining stages to ensure compliance. All in the interest of Benue people”, the House information committee chairman stated.
