BENUE State councils of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) on Wednesday enforced full compliance of the ongoing nationwide industrial action in the state.
The State Secretary of NLC in Benue, Comrade Joshua Abimiku, said on Tuesday that council could not observe the strike along with other states owing to late receipt of the directive from NLC headquarters in Abuja.
Comrade Abimiku, however told National Record that compliance by the council would be total on Wednesday.

Comrade Aloysius Umaja, state joint chairman, Public Service Negotiating Council 1, 2 & 3, and the joint chairman, Committee on Implementation of the Strike in Benue, both NLC and TUC, led members of the unions to lock public offices in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, as early as 10am on Wednesday.
At the state Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Comrade Umaja dispersed participants and resource persons who converged for an in-house training. They locked the gates of SUBEB and ordered the civil servants to join them.
“You are aware that what we have is organised labour, private sectors and public sectors. Yesterday, circulars were distributed to ministries, agencies and parastatals and other places and we have recorded a very high level of compliance.

“We discovered that things were going on at SUBEB but there is compliance as you can see people going out now,” Umaja told newsmen at SUBEB’s headquarters, Makurdi. All public offices including banks were shut on Wednesday in the state capital in compliance with the directive of the NLC and TUC.
