THE NIGERIA Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) has partnered with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to integrate enrollee data under the Employees’ Compensation Scheme (ECS) with their National Identification Number (NIN).
This initiative aims to facilitate seamless data sharing through the NIMC portal, ensuring efficient validation of workers registered under the ECS.
According to the Managing Director of NSITF, Barr. Oluwaseun Faleye, the collaboration will enable easy verification of employees’ biodata under the ECS using their NIN.
Faleye emphasized the importance of this step during a recent courtesy visit by NSITF management to the Director General of NIMC, Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, in Abuja.
Faleye stated that the partnership would enhance NSITF’s operational efficiency and strengthen its database to expand social security coverage.
He noted that leveraging NIMC’s nationwide data collection would improve the accuracy of employee compensation records.
“This collaboration will bring order to identity verification processes,” Faleye said, adding: “Harmonizing ECS data with NIN ensures that only properly registered individuals are enrolled in the scheme. Just as NIN verification is required for passport applications, we must adopt similar measures to maintain accurate employee records.”
The ECS provides compensation for employees who suffer work-related injuries, disabilities, or fatalities.
Faleye stressed that identity verification and proper data management are crucial to the scheme’s effectiveness.
“Partnering with NIMC will enhance our ability to identify eligible beneficiaries efficiently, not only for ECS but also for broader social security initiatives,” he added.
Faleye further highlighted the importance of data utilization, stating: “Collecting data is one thing; applying it to improve lives is another. Collaboration with NIMC ensures that service providers can access verified data, ultimately benefiting citizens.”
In response, NIMC’s Director General, Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, assured NSITF of the commission’s full support.
“We recognize the critical need for seamless service access,” she said. “Our IT teams will collaborate immediately to establish a working group and expedite the integration process. We will set a clear timeline to ensure timely implementation and may hold a joint press conference to announce our progress.”
The partnership is expected to streamline identity verification, improve data accuracy, and enhance service delivery under the ECS.
