GOVERNOR Hyacinth Alia, has issued a stern warning to individuals and groups planning unapproved visits to the state, particularly political figures, saying that no such visits will be entertained without prior clearance.
In a press statement released on Monday by the Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, the governor stated that he is “not expecting any August visitor” to the state today, as he is currently engaged in high-level meetings with key stakeholders on pressing state matters.
The statement advised against any visit by groups or high-profile individuals that could lead to politically charged gatherings, warning that such activities without proper authorization could compromise public safety.
“For anyone considering a visit to Benue State without the Governor’s knowledge, it is imperative to reconsider such plans, as the safety and security of individuals in this regard cannot be guaranteed,” the statement read.
The governor also directed that any person or organization intending to visit Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state must obtain written permission from the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA).
“We urge security agents and the public to take note of this announcement and maintain peace and order in the state,” the CPS added.
National Record gathered that the governor’s position may be aimed at curbing the practice of political actors exploiting visits to IDP camps as platforms for early campaigning, especially as the 2027 general elections draw closer.
