THE LIONS International Multiple District 404 Nigeria has urged government to gauge people’s feelings before implementing policies in order to ease the economic hardship being experienced by Nigerians.
The Multiple Council Chairperson, Multiple District 404, Ayobola Samuel, stated this at a news conference marking the commencement of the district’s convention.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 17th Multiple District 404 Nigerian Convention, tagged Oke’badan 2024, will hold between May 8 and May 12.
Samuel enjoined governments at all levels to adopt the club’s the needs assessment style before embarking on any project.
“What we mean by that is that we reach out to our potential beneficiaries to determine what their priorities are and when they tell us what they want, it will guide us on what to do.
“Government should reach out to the people they are governing, know where the shoe pinches and address their programmes and projects along the areas of concern.

“When they take time to find out the priorities of the citizens, it will help a lot,” he said.
Samuel stressed the need for government to make policies with human face by gauging the feelings of the people before coming out with policies.
“The recent increase in electricity tariff concerns many Nigerians because we have darkness more than light.
“I don’t think the starting point is to increase it. But let there be stability in the electricity supply and then, people will not mind paying,” he said.
Samuel stated that the club had been collaborating with government in carrying out some of its projects.
For instance, he said that the club built diabetes centres in different places in Kwara, in collaboration with the state government which provided the land and personnel while the club donated the building and facilities.

Also speaking, Mr Abiola Odeyemi, the Multiple District Convention Coordinator Okebadan 2024 and Lion Past District Governor, said that the theme of the convention “Bonding to Serve” was aimed at letting people know that they could make a difference in their communities and the society at large.
“We realised that bonding is unity among people of like minds,” Odeyemi said.
In her remarks, a Past Council Chairperson, Lions Club, Princess Adetope Tycus, said that the club had been championing eight thematic areas, including fight against diabetes, paediatric cancers, youth empowerment and the environment. Tycus urged government to improve on the healthcare system to cater for the various challenges facing the less- privileged in the country. (NAN)
