“Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: For our God is a consuming fire” (Hebrews 12:27-29)
WELCOME to the month of February, 2024. Our focus for the month is: “Walking in the Fear of the Lord” (Hebrews 12:28-29).
I decree and declare that the zeal to serve God reverently shall fall upon us this Month. As we passionately serve Him with fear and reverence, He shall not withhold any good thing from our lives in Jesus Name. We shall be blessed and preserved throughout this Month of February, in Jesus Name.
One of the major challenges in our society today is the lack of the fear of God. This is one of the reasons why there is so much decadence in our cities and nations today. Our society is bewildered with all manner of vices such as armed robbery attacks, kidnapping, ritual killings, hired assassins, money laundering etc.
Unfortunately, there is a shortage of the fear of God in the churches too. The Bible says, “There is no fear of God before their eyes” (Romans 3:18).
When we choose to fear the Lord, we will richly be blessed (Psalm 112:1-10) and our churches, our nations and the works of our hands shall grow and prosper. The Spirit of God is the Spirit of the fear of the Lord and our God delights in the fear of the Lord (Isaiah 11:2-3)
What is the Fear of the Lord?
The fear of the Lord is a deep-seated reverence for God that cause men to want to please Him above everything at all costs. The Bible says, “Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: For our God is a consuming fire” (Hebrews 12:28-29). This reverence and awe is what the fear of God means for Christians.
Fear of God is to hear His Word and obey His commandments (Psalm 112:1; Deuteronomy 6:2; Ecclesiastes 12:14). Abraham proved that he feared God by not withholding his only son in obedience to God’s voice. God Himself testified, “Now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me” (Genesis 22:12).
To fear God is to hate evil: pride, and arrogance, and the evil way, and forward mouth (Proverbs 8:13). Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him (Genesis 5:24). Enoch walked with God for three hundred and sixty-five years in the fear and awe of God. He so much walked with God, that God Himself took him. What a legacy for the Christian faith! A true Christian is one who behaves himself as a Christian and live in the fear and awe of God when no one is watching him.
Scriptural Examples of Men Who Walked in the Fear of the Lord:
