THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday arraigned former Managing Director/Chief Executive of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), Mrs Ngozi Olojeme, at the FCT High Court sitting in Jabi, Abuja.
Mrs Olojeme, who was also a former Chairman of the Board of Trustfund Pensions Ltd, is being charged by the EFCC for allegedly defrauding the NSITF up to the tune of N69 billion, which she, along with another former Managing Director/Chief Executive of NSITF, Alhaji Umar Abubakar, allegedly converted to personal use.
The amount was allegedly found in accounts linked to both of them after the award of spurious contracts to proxy companies.
Trouble started for Olojeme shortly after her sack by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015. The EFCC received a petition alleging that over N50 billion from the Employee Compensation Scheme, paid by Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs) as well as private companies, and another N18 billion being contributions of the federal government as take-off grants to the NSITF, were diverted into the personal accounts of the accused.
