IN AN extraordinary feat of endurance and talent, Benue-born comedian, Dr. Laff Ijuo Albert, has made history by completing a 50-hour stand-up comedy marathon, surpassing the previous Guinness World Record of 40 hours and 8 minutes held by American comedian, David Scott, since 2013.

This record-breaking achievement took place at Banex Mall in Lekki, Lagos, drawing widespread attention and support from comedy lovers, fans and industry stakeholders.

45 hours plus…

A Journey of Passion and Perseverance

Dr. Laff, known for his witty humor and engaging stage presence, embarked on this remarkable journey on February 14, 2025, entertaining audiences non-stop until February 16. His marathon performance was not just a test of physical and mental endurance but also a demonstration of his unwavering commitment to comedy and entertainment.

Reflecting on his experience, Dr. Laff shared: “It was one of the toughest challenges I have ever faced, but the love and support from Nigerians kept me going. I wanted to show that comedy is more than just entertainment – it’s a way to bring people together, inspire and break barriers.”

Breaking Barriers for Nigerian Comedy

Dr. Laff’s success adds to the growing list of Nigerians who have attempted and set new records in various fields. His achievement highlights the growing influence of Nigerian comedians on the global stage, following in the footsteps of legendary figures who have elevated the country’s comedy industry.

50 hours plus…

Nigerian comedy has evolved tremendously, transitioning from stand-up gigs in small venues to commanding global audiences. The Guinness World Record achievement by Dr. Laff is expected to further cement Nigeria’s place as a powerhouse in entertainment and inspire upcoming comedians to pursue their dreams fearlessly.

More Than a Record: A Mission for Talent Development

Beyond personal glory, Dr. Laff’s 50-hour comedy marathon served as a fundraiser for his Talent City Naija project, an initiative aimed at nurturing young creative talents in Nigeria. The project seeks to provide mentorship, training and opportunities for upcoming comedians and entertainers to thrive in the industry.

Speaking on the initiative, Dr. Laff emphasized: “This record is not just about me. It’s about proving that Nigerian entertainers can achieve anything and making sure the next generation has the platform to do even greater things.”

A Celebration of Resilience and Talent

The achievement has sparked celebrations across social media, with fans and celebrities applauding his dedication. Popular comedians and entertainers such as Ali Baba, Basketmouth and Bovi have congratulated him on his historic feat, describing it as a major win for the industry.

His successful attempt is awaiting official confirmation from the Guinness World Records team, but many are already hailing him as Nigeria’s latest record-breaking star.

As Nigeria continues to shine on the global entertainment stage, Dr. Laff Ijuo Albert’s 50-hour stand-up comedy marathon stands as a testament to the power of perseverance, creativity and the unyielding Nigerian spirit. His journey is an inspiration to all, proving that laughter truly knows no limits.
