IN A resounding endorsement of corporate excellence, Dangote Cement Plc has clinched the Platinum Award at the prestigious 2023 ICAN-NGX Corporate Reporting Awards, solidifying its reputation as a trailblazer in financial transparency, governance, and sustainability.
The event, co-hosted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and NGX Regulation Limited (NGX REGCO), spotlighted Nigeria’s corporate giants setting unparalleled benchmarks in ethical business practices.
Dangote Cement emerged as the top performer among 30 elite listed companies, sweeping all evaluation categories – financial reporting (35%), corporate governance (30%), and sustainability (35%).
The cement giant outpaced industry titans like MTN Nigeria (Gold) and Seplat Energy (Silver), proving its unwavering commitment to accountability, investor confidence, and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) leadership.
Mr. Davidson Alaribe, ICAN President, hailed Dangote Cement’s win as a testament to “excellence beyond compliance,” emphasizing its role in shaping Nigeria’s sustainable financial future.
Mr. Olufemi Shobanjo, CEO of NGX Regulation, praised the awardees for “raising the bar in corporate reporting,” a critical driver of market trust and economic growth.
Dangote Cement’s Dominance:
As Africa’s leading cement producer (52Mta capacity), Dangote Cement has not only ended Nigeria’s reliance on cement imports but also turned the nation into a regional exporter. Its mega-plants – Obajana (Africa’s largest), Ibese, Gboko, and Okpella – symbolize industrial prowess, contributing to job creation, infrastructure development, and sustainable manufacturing.
Dangote Cement’s Platinum win cements its legacy as a corporate titan redefining Nigerian business on the global stage, although the conglomerate has a number of environment and pollution-related issues with many of its host communities, particularly in Benue State.
