THE TIV Youth Organisation (TYO) has refuted claims that Senator George Akume is nursing a presidential ambition for the 2027 presidential elections.

The group dismissed the speculation, initially spread by the Harmonised Civil Society Organisation in Nigeria (COHSCIN), during a world press conference held in Abuja on Thursday and the text of the press conference made available to the media.

Speaking on the matter, Comrade Sesugh Sebastian, the President of TYO, Abuja chapter, described the rumours as baseless, reaffirming that Akume remains committed to his role as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), a position conferred upon him by President Bola Tinubu.

The group expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for appointing Akume, viewing the move as a significant recognition of the Tiv nation.

TYO commended Senator Akume for his political maturity and conflict resolution skills, particularly in handling intra-party crises in Benue State.

The organisation noted that his leadership has garnered respect among politicians and the public alike.

The youth group also applauded the APC National Assembly Caucus for strongly condemning the ongoing killings in Benue State, emphasising the need for urgent intervention.

TYO urged both the federal and state governments to take decisive action to restore peace and security in the region.

The organisation also declared its unwavering support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid, citing his leadership as instrumental in advancing the interests of the Tiv people.

It commended Akume for his endorsement of Tinubu’s second-term ambition, describing it as a testament to his loyalty and commitment to the ruling party’s agenda.

In response to past attempts by certain groups to call for Akume’s removal as SGF, TYO labeled such efforts as a distraction aimed at undermining the administration’s “Renewed Hope” agenda.

The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to promoting the interests of the Tiv nation and ensuring continued support for both President Tinubu and Senator Akume in their leadership roles.
