IN A resounding endorsement of his leadership of Yobe State, the state’s Commissioner for Information, Abdullahi Bego, has praised Governor Mai Mala Buni’s unwavering commitment to capacity-building initiatives aimed at enhancing service delivery.
The commendation came during Bego’s paper presentation, entitled: “Public Information Management in a Democracy: Experience Sharing”, at a three-day capacity-building workshop for Focal Persons, held at the Bon Hotel in Kano.
The event, which concluded recently, spotlighted the critical role of public information managers in fostering transparency and trust between government agencies and citizens.
Buni Reaffirms Support for Effective Governance
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Baba Malam Wali, Governor Buni officially opened and closed the workshop, reiterating his administration’s dedication to providing the necessary support and resources for sustainable development across the state.
The Governor emphasized that empowering Focal Persons with the right tools and knowledge is key to achieving impactful governance.
Focal Persons: The Backbone of Public Information Management
Hon. Bego highlighted the pivotal role of Focal Persons, describing them as custodians of public information whose responsibilities extend beyond their immediate duties.
“Focal Persons are not just assigned tasks; they are the bridge between government agencies and the public, ensuring seamless information flow and fostering trust,” he stated.
Drawing from his decade-long experience as a government spokesperson under three successive administrations — Governors Mamman B. Ali, Ibrahim Gaidam, and Mai Mala Buni — Hon. Bego shared invaluable insights into the challenges and best practices of public information management.
He stressed that in today’s digital age, the ability to manage information effectively can make or break public confidence in government institutions.

With the increasing influence of digital platforms, Hon. Bego urged Focal Persons to exercise caution and professionalism in their social media engagements.
“Every post, comment, or update reflects on the government. Transparency, accountability, and service excellence must guide your online conduct,” he advised.
Hon. Bego expressed confidence that the knowledge gained and the tools provided would enable Focal Persons to drive meaningful change across the state.
“With Governor Buni’s support and the skills acquired here, we are poised to deliver tangible benefits to the people of Yobe,” he affirmed.

Themed: “Towards Qualitative and Impactful Service Delivery for Sustainable Development,” the workshop equipped participants with essential skills and resources, including brand-new laptops and training materials.
The program culminated in a robust framework for implementing and monitoring service delivery tailored to Yobe State’s unique needs.
