IN A STUNNING display of public support, Nigerian activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has raised an impressive ₦56.4 million just 48 hours after announcing the launch of his non-profit organisation.
The NGO, which aims to revitalise Nigeria’s public education system by involving National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, has seen overwhelming contributions from people across the country.
Expressing his gratitude in a recent update, Otse shared his amazement at the rapid flow of donations. “Like play, like play, in just two days we’ve raised ₦56.4 million — that’s massive love and support!” he said.
The activist revealed that while there were some large contributions, much of the money came from small donations ranging from ₦500 to as little as ₦10.
“The craziest part is that it’s the small amounts — ₦500, ₦300, ₦22 — that have made up the bulk of this total. Everyone has given little by little, and it’s added up to something incredible.”
Otse, who has been vocal about his mission to reform the education system and ensure transparency in non-profit operations, reiterated his commitment to proving wrong those who doubt the legitimacy of his initiative.
He acknowledged the concerns many people have about NGOs being used to launder money or engage in fraudulent activities, and vowed to remain transparent throughout the project.
“The planning is still ongoing,” Otse noted, adding that more funds are still being raised, with the hope of potentially reaching ₦100 million. “With the love and support we’ve seen, it’s possible. We’re definitely going to succeed.”
With such significant backing in just two days, the project to reshape public education in Nigeria seems to be well on its way to becoming a reality. “Shout out to everyone contributing,” Otse concluded. “Don’t play — the ratel gang is active 100%.”
