HUMAN rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has accused Senator Ned Nwoko of manipulating security agencies to harass members of actress Regina Daniels’s family and associates. The allegation was contained in a statement released on Sowore’s verified Facebook page on Monday.

Sowore claimed that the continued detention of Samuel Ojoegwu (popularly known as Sammy West), Regina Daniels’s brother, was allegedly influenced by the Delta North senator.

According to Sowore, “reliable information indicates that Senator Nwoko has deployed substantial funds to elements within the Nigeria Police Force in order to target and intimidate members of his estranged wife Regina Daniels’s family and friends.”

The activist further alleged that the senator attempted to involve the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in the matter. He further alleged that Nwoko was acting “through corrupt police officials and in some instances attempting to draw in the NDLEA.”

He also accused the lawmaker of trying to block Sammy West’s bail and of attempting to procure the arrest of Regina Daniels’s mother and friends.

Sowore wrote: “Senator Prince Ned Nwoko allegedly pressured Nigeria Police Force officers earlier today to block Sammy West’s bail and even attempted to procure the arrest of Regina Daniels’s friends and mother, Rita, under false claims that they were supplying her with drugs.”

In addition, Sowore alleged that the senator sponsored illegal surveillance on Regina Daniels’s private communications. He claimed that there were “credible reports that he illegally intercepted and monitored Regina Daniels’s private WhatsApp communications, paying large sums to police operatives to track her calls and messages.”

He added that “over 250 of such WhatsApp messages were submitted to implicate Regina Daniels’s close circle.”

Sowore further alleged that Senator Nwoko sponsored the fabrication of medical reports from two medical facilities in Abuja in an effort to criminalise Regina Daniels and those around her.

According to him, the senator was “said to have sponsored the fabrication of medical reports from Nizamiye Hospital in Abuja and another private facility in Abuja.”

Describing the alleged actions as an abuse of power, Sowore said: “These actions amount to a grave abuse of state power and violation of fundamental rights.”

The activist called on the federal government, the Attorney-General of the Federation and international human rights organisations to investigate the allegations. He wrote: “No individual, no matter how wealthy or politically connected, should be allowed to weaponize law enforcement institutions for personal vendettas.”
