YOUTHS on Monday blocked the federal highway at Oweto in Agatu LGA and Ugbokpo in Apa LGA, all in Benue State, as they protest the incessant killings of their people by bandits suspected to be herdsmen.
The protesters asked both the federal and state governments for immediate action to save the people of the areas, who are predominantly farmers.
The protest, which started as early as 6am, lasted up to 1:30pm, compelling commuters to and from Abuja to pack their vehicles by the roadside, the Information Officer of Apa LGA, Mr John Adaga, told National Record.

The youths, he said, lamented that the attacks have claimed many lives, forcing survivors to take refuge in Obagaji, the headquarters of Agatu local government, and in Ugboko, the headquarters of Apa local government, among and other locations.
“As early as 6am to 1:30pm, some aggressive youths from Apa local government area engaged themselves in a peaceful protest regarding the incessant attacks by herdsmen on the people of Apa local government.
“They came out this morning and cried to the government of the day to come to the aid of their people, that the killings and demolitions and whatever is getting out of hand.
“This morning, they have called on the federal government, the state government and the political associates to come to their aid,” Adaga said.

He added that the peaceful protest continued until the senator representing Benue South, Abba Moro, who was traveling to Abuja intervened and the road was unblocked.
“Rt. Honourable Patrick Abba Moro and other personalities also appealed to them to calm down that he would take it to the Senate to enable them to caution the herdsmen to lay down their arms,” Adaga added.
