BENUE State Police Command has arrested four suspected child traffickers around Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps at North Bank and other parts of Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

In a statement on Wednesday, Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police (SP) Sewuese Anene, said the arrest followed a tip off that a syndicate of child traffickers was operating in the said locations and surveillance was intensified in the areas.

Those apprehended in connection with the offence were Member Friday, the Kingpin’s wife and accomplice, Stephen Terungwa, Sughter Akegh and Atom Gideon while the kingpin, one Friday was said to have escaped to an unknown destination.

“During the interview session, suspects confessed to have recruited pregnant girls who gave birth and handed over to one Friday, the kingpin who has been on the run. They were paid one hundred and fifty thousand naira for each pregnancy that was delivered”, the statement said.

On a positive note, one child that was earlier reported missing by his parents at Saudi police Division was also rescued from the house of the said kingpin according to the statement.
