THE ORGANISATION of Trade Union of West Africa (OTUWA) has expressed its unflinching support and solidarity with American workers impacted by President Trump’s executive orders and harmful activities of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) led by businessman and Senior Advisor to the President, Mr Elon Musk.

This is contained in a solidarity statement by Comrade John Odah, the Executive Secretary of OTUWA.

The statement, dated March 5, 2025, entitled: “Recent onslaught on Works’ Rights in the US: We are in This Together”, is addressed to Liz Shuler, President, AFL-CIO in Washington DC.

The statement reads:

“The leadership of Organization of Trade Unions of West Africa (OTUWA) sends its solidarity to the AFL-CIO and write to express its unwavering support for all of American’s workers who have been impacted by the current US administration’s executive orders and the harmful activities of a billionaire-led DOGE.

“We viewed this frightening trend of events as calculated attacks on the collective labour rights and dignity of working people in the US and a threat to the hard-earned victories of workers’ struggles in the US and the world at large.

“In all of this, we stand in solidarity with you and millions of American workers at risk of unfair labour practices and abuses.

“as workers, we have always risen above adversity and built solidarities that support each other in moments like this.

“In our togetherness, we will fight to protect the labour and civil rights of all workers in every corner of the world!”
