IN A SIGNIFICANT step towards fostering unity, progress and security, the Ochetoha K’Idoma, a forum of eminent Idoma sons and daughters, in partnership with chairmen of local governments in Idoma-speaking areas, politically known as Zone C or Benue South Senatorial District, has come up with a strategic vision for a prosperous Idoma Nation, highlighting education, security, infrastructure, and human capital development as key priorities.
In a press statement, dated Wednesday, June 11, 2025, signed by Chief (Dr.) Paul Edeh Esq, its Secretary General, the Ochetoha K’Idoma said the commitment was made at a strategic meeting with local government chairmen from Zone C on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 held at Batoha Resort in Makurdi.
The meeting, presided over by the President General of Ochetoha K’Idoma, Prof. Yakubu Aboki Ochefu, called for cooperation beyond political affiliations, with a resolution of stakeholders to work together for sustained efforts to tackle insecurity in Zone C.
Among proposals for success include collaboration and empowerment of security operatives, creating safe spaces for youth engagement, and protecting agricultural livelihoods, which are vital to the region’s economy.
The press statement quoted Hon. James Melvin, Chairman of Agatu LGA and Vice Chairman of the Benue chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), who spoke on behalf of the LG chairmen, to have expressed their readiness to collaborate with Ochetoha K’Idoma.
He praised the Forum’s inclusive approach and leadership, noting that regular dialogue would yield tangible results for the Idoma people.
In response, Prof. Ochefu reiterated the Forum’s commitment to serving as a neutral platform for policy coordination and community mobilization.
Ochefu proposed quarterly review sessions with the LG Chairmen to evaluate progress and address shared concerns.
“The meeting concluded with a renewed pledge to amplify local voices, celebrate shared values, and attract support for the development of the Idoma Nation.
“The Forum expressed confidence in the collective ability of stakeholders to overcome differences and build a homeland defined by hope, honor, and opportunity,” the press statement read.
