THE MANAGING Director of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) has called for the consistent promotion of a safety culture in workplaces across the country.
Mr Oluwaseun Faleye made this call while receiving a delegation from the Occupational Safety and Health Association of Nigeria (OSHA) on Monday in Abuja.
Faleye stressed the need for increased awareness and strict compliance with safety regulations to create safer workplaces and protect workers nationwide.
He noted that advocacy and continuous training are key to achieving a safe and healthy working environment in Nigeria.
According to him, this approach promotes safety culture and protects workers, especially through employee compensation schemes.
He emphasised the importance of collaboration among stakeholders to develop training programmes and establish robust workplace safety standards.
Faleye reiterated his commitment to enhancing health and safety initiatives in Nigeria, urging joint efforts to boost training and knowledge sharing.
He added that the ultimate goal is a safer work environment and the well-being of the nation’s workforce.
“This is a vital collaboration regarding occupational safety and health initiatives, and it highlights our areas of possible cooperation.
“I am very pleased with your efforts to expand health and safety awareness across Nigeria, particularly your broad nationwide outreach.
“I am also encouraged by your legislative initiatives, which will help strengthen occupational safety and health practices across the country.
“Through such legislation, we can further entrench a culture of health and safety in Nigeria,” he stated.
Earlier, Capt. Uwalaka Godbest, National Coordinator of OSHA Nigeria, said the visit aimed to promote health and safety in organisations nationwide.
He highlighted OSHA’s achievements, including the establishment of protocols and introduction of OSHA desk officers in ministries to ensure compliance and training.
Godbest expressed the association’s desire to collaborate with organisations to enhance training and strengthen workplace safety culture.
He added that recent incidents in Nigeria highlight the urgent need for joint training initiatives and greater emphasis on health and safety. (NAN)
