THE NIGERIA Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives in the Afriland Towers fire on Broad Street, Lagos.
Mr Oluwaseun Faleye, Managing Director of NSITF, said this in a condolence message issued on Friday in Abuja.
According to Faleye, the Fund’s heart goes out to the bereaved families, the Federal Inland Revenue Service, United Capital Plc, UBA, Afriland Properties, and all organisations affected.
He commended emergency responders and Lagos State authorities for their courage and swift action in managing the tragic incident.
The NSITF boss said the Fund had activated its Lagos support desk to liaise with affected employers, next of kin and relevant authorities.
According to him, this will ensure eligible employees and their families promptly access relief under the Employees’ Compensation provisions.
“Our case officers are on hand to guide employers and families through incident reporting, claims documentation, and delivery of benefits, including dependants’ support and rehabilitation,” Faleye said.
He said that the moment was a reminder of the Fund’s role in times of workplace tragedy, saying NSITF exists to provide a national safety net for workers.
Faleye urged all employers to review and strengthen their safety and emergency protocols, particularly in high-rise buildings and power-backup installations.
He also called on employers to ensure all incidents are promptly reported to NSITF for immediate mobilisation of support.
According to him, organisations should confirm registration with NSITF and compliance with Employees’ Compensation obligations, to guarantee staff coverage.
“On behalf of the Board, Management and Staff of the NSITF, I extend our deepest condolences to all affected families and institutions,” he said.
Faleye prayed for the repose of the departed and pledged continued collaboration with federal and Lagos State authorities to prevent future tragedies. (NAN)
