NO FEWER than 19 additional beneficiaries have been empowered under the vocational rehabilitation programme of the Employees’ Compensation Scheme (ECS) of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF)
Managing Director of the Fund, Mr Oluwaseun Faleye, said this during the empowerment ceremony for the beneficiaries in Abuja on Tuesday.
Faleye, represented by Mrs Nkiru Ede-Ogunnaike, General Manager, Claims and Compensation, said the gesture demonstrated the commitment of the Fund’s leadership to social protection and the welfare of Nigerian workers.
He said the empowerment initiative was in line with the provisions of the Employees’ Compensation Act (ECA) 2010.
According to him, the programme is structured in three phases — reorientation, vocational training, and empowerment with startup tools — aimed at restoring hope and economic independence to injured workers.
“This event marks another milestone in our journey to restore dignity through work for beneficiaries in the Lagos and Ibadan zones,” he said.
Faleye said that the programme celebrates courage, resilience, and the power of second chances, adding that the Fund plans to expand the rehabilitation exercise nationwide.
He said the move would ensure that more Nigerian workers who lost their ability to continue working due to workplace injuries or disabilities are supported to begin new livelihoods.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr Taiwo Kosoko, who was trained in poultry farming, expressed appreciation to the NSITF for the empowerment and pledged to make good use of the empowerment tools
He commended the Managing Director for transforming the Fund within a short period and ensuring its impact is felt by workers and stakeholders.
The vocational rehabilitation programme, launched in July 2025, has so far benefited 57 Nigerians from selected zones across the country. (NAN)
