Introduction:
It has been established that soul winning is the heartbeat of God because the Bible said “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). God is a loving and compassionate Father that is not interested in the death of a sinner. “Do I take pleasure in the death of the wicked declares the Sovereign LORD. Rather, am I not pleased when they turn from their ways and live?” (Ezekiel 18:23) NIV.
He has also commanded us as believers to “Go ye into into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15). It a biblical command for believers to spread the Christian message to all the people. This mission involves the “good news” of Jesus Christ through various methods, which can include direct preaching, living a life that reflects Christian values, and showing love and compassion to others. The command emphasizes the importance of sharing hope and salvation with those who have not yet heard the message.
Other effective methods are building authentic relationships, serving others, sharing a personal testimony and leveraging on online platforms to connect and share the gospel. Key principles involve praying consistently for lost souls and also using practical approaches like inviting people to church, events or serving their physical needs.
The blessings of soul winning are enormous, amongst which includes, rejoicing in heaven when a soul is won (Luke 15:7), depopulation of hell and bringing people back to God’s original plan for their lives. The wisdom of God is made available to the soul winner and they are giving divine protection (Proverbs 11:30).
Reasons Why Every Christian Must Win Souls:
As a child of God, we are meant to win souls because:
1. It is a Command from God: Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature in the book of Mark 16:15, is a biblical command for believers to spread the Christian message to all the people. This mission involves the “good news” – Jesus Christ, either through direct preaching to the people or living a life that reflects Christian values, and showing love and compassion to others. This command emphasises the importance of sharing hope and salvation with those who have not yet heard the message.
2. There is Hell: Those who do not know Jesus Christ shall be turned to hell. “The wicked shall be turned into hell and all the nations that forget God” (Psalm 9:7). This is why it behoves on us to preach to others who don’t know God, so that they can make their ways right, and don’t die and go to hell.
3. It pleases and glorifies God: God is pleased and glorified when we bear fruit as Christians. “Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples” (John 15:8). If you are a Christian and you are not bearing fruit, then something is wrong.
4. There is Heaven: What a privilege it will be for us to see those living forever in Heaven, to whom we have preached the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. There is great joy in heaven when a soul is turned to the Lord (Luke 15:7).
5. It brings Encouragement to Believers: When you win people to Christ, bring them to church or share their testimonies with others, believers are encouraged, uplifted and challenged to do same.
6. Stained with the Blood: As Christians, our hands will be stained with the blood of the lost when we don’t speak to them about Christ. “When I say unto the wicked, Thou shall surely die, and thou gives him no warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life, the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand” (Ezekiel 3:18)
7. Judgement Seat: We must face Jesus at the judgment seat of Christ. “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that everyone may receive the things done in his body, whether it be good or bad. Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your conscience (2Corinthians 5:10-11).
Effective Ways To Win Souls:
1. Our Lifestyles: Our lifestyles and character preach more to people than carrying banners to prove or show to people that you are a Christian. The Bible said “By their fruits, you shall know them” (Matthew 7:15-20). A person’s true character is revealed most times, through their actions, not their words. Let your character and conduct so prick their conscience that without speaking a word, they are held spell bound and yield their lives to Christ. “Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouth, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear”. (Ephesians 4:29) ESV
2. Burden for Souls: Ask God to give you burden for souls, to help you see the world as He sees it and to lay upon your heart a handful of people for whom you can earnestly pray for. Then pray over those names every day. Keep a little prayer list, and pray for an opportunity of reaching those souls for Christ. John Knox prayed “give me Scotland or I die” That was a man who carried the burden of a whole nation before God; and his impacts and legacies are still speaking till today.
3. Serve Others: Service to others is a veritable platform in which you can easily connect and reach out to the people with the gospel. Selfless service helps people connect with others. Acts of kindness and compassion seen as a reflection of God’s love can also lead a person to be more open to the message of their faith. Service to people can make them more receptive to spiritual conversation.
4. Sharing a Personal Testimony: Testimonies are powerful tools in soul winning. You can share a personal testimony of your life to somebody how God helped you to transition from where you were to where you are now. Testimonies can have tremendous impacts in the life of somebody. The Bible also reckoned that “For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy” (Revelation 19:10).
5. Building Bridges to Others: When the Lord shows you those needing Christ, seek to build relationships with them. We must cultivate friendship with those needing Christ. Perhaps Christ has placed you in your particular school or workplace just to reach those whom no one else can reach. Remember how Jesus went to Zacchaeus house where many sinners had gathered (Luke 19:1-10).
6. Sharing of Tracks: You can also deploy this means of evangelism by distributing Tracks/Bibles in your community, neighbourhood, motor parks, schools, hospitals, buses and workplaces. Pray on these materials before you go out to distribute them and the power of the Holy Ghost shall breathe on those materials for the transformation and salvation of lives of the recipients.
7. Invitations: Be determined to invite people to Church, Convention and Conferences. Through the preached Word of God, such person can give their life to Christ.
8. Social Media Platforms: The age of technology has added impetus to global evangelism. You can reach anybody anywhere in the world in a split of seconds. So leverage on these global platforms to reach the unreached groups. You have the Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Telegram, WhatsApp, etc. Maximize these platforms to bring someone to the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
9. Leave the Result with God: We are responsible for sharing the gospel, but only God can convert the soul. Having done your best, let Him do the rest.
The Blessings of Soul Winning:
1. You experience personal growth in Christ (Philippians 1:6) and also in the knowledge that you are following Christ (Matthew 4:19). There is contentment in knowing that your life is not wasted.
2. Rewards of your labour is seen in the lives of those you won to Christ. Nothing brings greater joy than for you to watch and see their exploits in the kingdom.
3. There is the reward we see in the body of Christ – the Real Church. Apostle Peter compared the local church to a building under construction. In 1 Peter 2:4-5, he says we come to Christ, the living stone, and then we become “… like living stones who are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ”. Most local churches today are not growing because there are few or no new births coming into the churches.
4. There are incredible rewards in Eternity. Daniel 12:3 says, “Those who lead many to righteousness will shine like stars forever and ever”
5. There is an overwhelming joy that you have somebody to present to Christ at the judgment seat of Christ. 2Corinthians 5:10 says that every believer must stand at the judgment seat and give account of his life on earth. Certainly, the most serious part of that account would be when Jesus would ask “whom did you bring with you?” The joy of bringing someone with you to the judgment seat of Jesus Christ is unspeakable. Mercy Lord.
6. The wisdom of God is released upon soul winners. Proverbs 11:30 says “He who wins souls is wise.
