Residents living around the Benue State Police Officers’ mess, close to the Aper Aku Stadium and the Benue State Education Quality Assurance Office, Makurdi, the state capital, are currently gripped in horror and fear following the discovery of a badly decomposing corpse in the area.

The corpse, believed to be that of a man in his 40s, is said to have been there in the open since Friday, and was, as at Monday, emitting a pungent odour that has become unbearable, residents say.

Residents, National Record observed, were not only horrified but fearful of police harassment, and as a result reluctant to comment on the gruesome site.

“The smell has become increasingly unbearable since Sunday, and if the body is not removed by tomorrow, this area will be uninhabitable,” the man said.
Efforts to reach the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Chief Superintendent of Police Sewuese Anene, for comment were unsuccessful, as at the time of filing this report as she didn’t respond to a chat sent to her.
