GOVERNOR Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has declared Friday, October 4, 2024 a work-free day to enable citizens to travel to their local government areas for the upcoming local government elections.
The elections in which chairmen of the 23 LGAs in the state and councillors representing the various wards in the local governments are scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 5, 2024.
In statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, on Thursday, Governor Alia encouraged all citizens to participate in the electoral process.
He expressed confidence that the elections will be conducted smoothly and fairly.
The governor urged public and private sector organisations to support the initiative by allowing employees to utilise the work-free day to travel and prepare for the election.
The governor also emphasised the need for peaceful conduct and collaboration during the elections.
The local government elections are expected to take place across the state, with citizens encouraged to exercise their civic duty and contribute to the democratic process.
