THE FOUNDER and General Overseer of the Lordship of Christ Family Ministry, Makurdi, Apostle Mtswenem Tor David, has called upon Christian clerics across Nigeria to exercise courage and unwavering commitment to truth in the face of the country’s deepening socio-political challenges.

Speaking during a sermon titled: “Courageous Men of God”, delivered at the 10th pastoral anniversary celebration of five pastors he personally ordained, Apostle Mtswenem urged men of God to remain steadfast in their divine calling.

He emphasized the need for bold voices from the pulpit, stating that Nigeria is currently navigating perilous times that require spiritual leaders to stand firm in truth.

“If you are not courageous, you cannot stand – you will flee from preaching the gospel. Every societal problem is blamed on men of God. Even when people experience hunger, they blame the pastor for not praying enough. But regardless of public opinion, your identity as a servant of God remains,” he said, citing Joshua 1:9.

Apostle Mtswenem warned that Nigeria is “sitting on a bomb,” and underscored the urgent need for courageous spiritual leaders who can confront authority with truth and integrity.

“In today’s Nigeria, we do not need timid men of God. We need bold clerics who can tell the President when he is wrong. Many people, wealthier than pastors, still seek their counsel because true men of God refuse to compromise. That is the essence of spiritual courage,” he stated.

He also criticized the growing trend of clergy accepting political appointments, suggesting that such roles often undermine their prophetic responsibilities.

“Some men of God are preaching while receiving financial benefits, yet they remain silent on national issues. Bishop Kukah, for example, accepted an appointment under this administration and has since gone quiet. The problems he once condemned under Buhari have worsened under Tinubu—especially the insecurity and rampant kidnappings. Even the Makurdi–Otobi route is now unsafe. Otukpo is under siege. The federal government has failed to secure the Makurdi–Naka road, and Gwer West remains overwhelmed. Once kidnappers strike in areas like Apir and Ikpayongo, Makurdi becomes isolated,” he lamented.

Apostle Mtswenem called on fellow clerics to unite in prayer and advocacy, declaring, “Nigeria is at war. Let us rise and cry unto God.”

He commended the pastors serving under his ministry, lauding their commitment despite the lack of salaries or external financial support. “That is true service to God,” he said, noting that their dedication inspired the decision to honor them during the anniversary celebration.

Reflecting on the Easter and Good Friday celebrations, the apostle cautioned against secular festivities, urging pastors to lead their congregations in reverent observance rather than engaging in practices such as “mummy water” dances.

Also speaking at the event, Pastor Mark Sule of Life Builders Ministry, Makurdi, condemned recent killings by suspected herdsmen. He revealed that the home of a fellow pastor in Otobi was attacked the preceding Tuesday, resulting in multiple deaths.

“This is a sign of the end times, but it does not mean Christians should cease praying,” he said, also expressing disappointment over the cancellation of a planned visit to Benue State by former Anambra State Governor and presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi. He described the visit as a missed opportunity to encourage internally displaced persons (IDPs).

“The wicked flee when no one pursues. Men of God are accountable to God, not to man,” he emphasized.

Pastor Mrs. Mtswenem reflected on the ten-year journey of the ministry, expressing gratitude for the grace and resilience that have sustained them. “Ten years in ministry is not for the faint-hearted. It requires courage to endure the many challenges involved in serving God,” she said.

Other pastors, including Pastor Christian Ajayi and Pastor Oryina Aoraan, expressed their appreciation to Apostle Mtswenem for his mentorship and spiritual guidance. They also thanked the congregation for their unwavering support.

In her remarks, Pastor Mrs. Hannah Ikyernum, General Overseer of New Anointing Ministry, called on Christians to remain vigilant and prayerful. “It is time to awaken. The youth and women must rise and resist the Fulani invasion. Deborah stood alone and won a battle—we must do the same,” she charged.
