A CHIEF Magistrates’ Court in Gwagwalada, FCT, on Tuesday sentenced a labourer, Isah Sani to two months imprisonment for stealing yam seedlings worth N144,000.
Sani, who was convicted and sentenced for criminal trespass and theft, had begged the court for mercy.
Chief Magistrate Jacinta Okeke sentenced Sani to two months imprisonment or one-month community service in the Gwagwalada market and also warned him to desist from committing crimes.

Earlier, the prosecuting counsel, Abdullahi Tanko, told the court that the complainant, Liasu Saidu, of Ukara Village, Airport Road, Abuja, reported the matter at the police station on May 9.
Tanko said that the convict trespassed into the complainant’s yam farm and uprooted his planted yam seedlings valued at N144,000.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 348 and 287 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
