THE FEDERAL High Court in Abuja has ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to release businesswoman and socialite Aisha Achimugu within 24 hours.
Justice Inyang Ekwo issued the ruling on Wednesday, directing the EFCC and other parties involved in the case to report back to the court on May 2 to confirm compliance with the order.
Earlier, operatives of the anti-graft agency brought Achimugu to court as mandated. She arrived at approximately 11:35 a.m., escorted by two female EFCC officers.
The court had, on Monday, ordered Achimugu — who was previously alleged to have fled the country — to honor the EFCC’s invitation by appearing before the agency on Tuesday at noon.
Justice Ekwo also directed the EFCC to present her in court on Wednesday for a progress report.
However, reports indicated that Achimugu was arrested by EFCC operatives upon her arrival from abroad around 5 a.m. and subsequently detained. (NAN)
