AN IKEJA Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday remanded three men for various offences bothering on defilement of minors.
Chief Magistrate O. A. Layinka ordered that 42-year-old man, Festus Nwaegela, be remanded at the Kirikiri custodial facility for allegedly defiling an eight-year-old girl.
Nwaegela is to be kept at the facility pending advice from the state Director of Public Prosecution as the court did not take his plea.
Chief Magistrate Layinka adjourned the case to April 2, 2024for mention.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Lucky Ihieme, had told the court that the suspect committed the offence on December 18, 2023, at Tejuosho Federal Road, Ebute Metta, Lagos State.
Ihieme alleged that the defendant sexually assaulted the minor by penetrating her anus, an offence which the prosecution says contravenes Section 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
If convicted, the defendant is liable to life imprisonment.
In a related sexual offence case,Chief Magistrates Layinka also ordered the remand of 56-year-old Adesina Lawal, at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre on Tuesday for allegedly defiling an 11-year-old girl.
Chief Magistrate Layinka who also did not take Lawal’s plea, ordered that the case file should be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice and adjourned the case until April 30, 2024 pending the DPP’s advice.

The prosecutor, Insp. Lucky Ihieme, had told the court that Lawal allegedly committed the offence sometimes in November 2023 at Vero Asha St., Off Clem Road, Ijaiye Ojokoro, Lagos.
He said Lawal had carnal knowledge of the minor without her consent and also penetrated into her mouth.
Ihieme said the offence contravened sections 137 and 261 Criminal Laws of Lagos State (2015), which is punishable by life imprisonment.
Meanwhile, Chief Magistrate also ordered the remand of 54-year-old Michael Uduigwome in the Ikoyi Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling his eight-month-old daughter.
Uduigwome, who lives on Rasaq Balogun St., Surulere, Lagos State, is charged with defilement.
Chief Magistrate Layinka also did not take the plea of Uduigwome but ordered that the case file be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice and adjourned the matter until April 30, 2024 for DPP advice.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Ihieme told the court that Uduigwome allegedly committed the offence sometime in October 2023 at his residence.
Ihieme alleged that Uduigwome defiled his own baby (name withheld) when she was in his care.
According to the prosecutor, the offence contravenes Section 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015 with a penalty of life imprisonment if convicted. (NAN)
