AN ANGRY mob in Achoho in Gwer East LGA of Benue State on Monday burnt to ashes a 22-year-old man simply identified as Botswar (Bad Anus) who allegedly raped and murdered his brother’s wife last Friday.

A source from Achoho confided in National Record that Botswar accompanied the victim, whose name could not be ascertained by our correspondent as at the time of filing this report, to farm on Friday, February 2, 2024, and the two did not return home.

Our source however revealed that the alleged rapist-murderer and the victim belonged to Ayisa Family of Achoho.

During a search, the woman’s lifeless body was found on the ground with signs of rape and matchet cuts on her rear head and nose.

Botswar was later traced to Tse-Agberagba, the headquarters of Konshisha LGA, where his mother got married after her first marriage.

Angry youths were said to have caught him at Agidi on their way back and they did not waste time dispensing jungle justice by setting him ablaze after he was alleged to have confessed to the rape and murder of the victim.

Body of the raped and murdered woman

“The woman was Botswar’s brother’s wife. He was last seen with the woman on Friday on their way to the farm and they did not return.

“When the victim’s dead body was picked on Saturday, it was discovered that Botswar struck the woman with a cutlass on her rear head and nose and when she fell on the ground, he took her to a mango tree where he raped her seriously. It’s like the woman resisted him when he started making moves to ‘sleep’ with her. So, when she was pushing wheelbarrow in his front as they were returning from the farm, Botswar butchered and raped her”, the source narrated.

Asked why they did not take the alleged killer-rapist to the police, the source, who is an okada rider in the area, said the angry youths refused to do so, pointing out that Botswar would only be remanded and freed after some time.

Efforts to confirm the mob attack failed as the Divisional Police Office, Tse-Agberagba could not be reached as at press time.

Similarly, an enquiry message sent to the Police Public Relations Officer, Benue State Command, SP Josephine Anene, on the rape and murder of the woman as well as the mob action of the alleged rapist, was not responded to as at press time.
