THE DIRECTOR General of the Benue State Public Procurement Commission (BSPPC), Engr. Comfort Akwonya Adadu, on Thursday conducted a technical inspection of the ongoing renovation work at the Benue State House of Assembly Complex to ensure accountability and uphold public interest.
According to BSPPC Information Officer, Mngohol Agenda, the monitoring and evaluation exercise, described as a “due diligence” visit, aimed to verify the contractor’s compliance with approved specifications and quality standards.
The inspection team assessed the quality of installed roofing sheets, newly assembled furniture, and overall workmanship, cross-checking them against the project’s approved Bill of Quantities.
Engr. Adadu emphasized that the visit was not merely procedural but a critical accountability measure to ensure public funds yield tangible benefits for Benue State.
“As a Commission, we are committed to ensuring that every naira spent translates into visible, measurable, and durable outcomes. Substandard work and unnecessary delays will not be tolerated,” she stated.
The contractor reported that the project was 90% complete, with all remaining materials already on-site. He cited unforeseen challenges as the cause for delays and requested a 60-day extension to finalize and hand over the facility.
While acknowledging the progress made, Adadu cautioned against further delays, urging the contractor to adhere to the revised timeline.
“The people of Benue deserve nothing less than quality, and we are here to ensure their expectations are met,” she affirmed.
The Director General was accompanied by a multidisciplinary team, including the Commission’s Quantity Surveyor and Civil Engineer, the Director of Building Engineering from the Ministry of Works, a representative from the Ministry of Finance’s Efficiency Unit, the Commission’s Information Officer, her Special Assistant on Media and Communications, and the project contractor.
