THE SPEAKER of the Benue State House of Assembly, Hon. Berger Alfred Emberga, has frowned at the contractor handling the renovation of the Assembly Complex in Makurdi, describing the pace of work as disappointing and unacceptable.
Emberga, who led principal officers of the House on an inspection tour of the project on Tuesday, accused the contractor of failing to keep to deadlines despite receiving full payment from the state government months ago.
He recalled that in June 2025, the contractor promised lawmakers that the project would be completed and handed over within three months. However, he said, no substantial progress had been made since then.
“The House is expected to receive and deliberate on the 2026 budget in the renovated chamber, yet the contractor has wasted precious time. The delay is worrisome, discouraging and disappointing,” the Speaker expressed displeasure.
Emberga emphasized that the Alia administration had released all funds required for the project and insisted the government owed the contractor nothing. He warned that the House would not tolerate excuses for continued neglect.
He issued a 30-day ultimatum for the contractor to deliver on the project or face contract revocation in line with the terms of agreement signed with the Ministry of Works.
There is a growing concern over delayed projects across Benue State.
