THE Benue State Commissioner of Police, Mr Wale Abbas, has ordered full scale investigation to unravel the source and the intended destination of arms and ammunition intercepted while being conveyed by four smugglers in Ugbema, Buruku LGA of Benue State on Monday.
State Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police (SP) Catherine Anene in a statement on Thursday said the arrest was made on 4th July, 2022 at about 1730hrs while officers of Operation Zenda JTF were on stop-and-search duty at Dura Bridge, Ugbema, Buruku LGA of Benue State.
The statement reads: “One Terhide Iordye was arrested with one hundred and eighty thousand 7.62 x 39mm live AK-47 ammunition in a sack.
“Further investigation led to his confession that there were other gang members in Makurdi. Three (2) other suspects; Emanuel Kuhwa, Ikyor Titus and Inas Moses were subsequently arrested in possession of one hundred and twenty (120) ammunition making a total of three hundred (300) ammunition. These suspects confessed to being members of the same ammunition supply gang.”
The Police Commissioner advised members of the public to provide useful information that will help the police to curb insecurity in the state.
