THE BENUE State Government has disclosed the rescue of nine worshippers abducted during a worship session at Saint John’s Catholic Church in the Ojije area of Utonkon, Ado LGA
This was revealed in a statement issued by the Governor’s Technical Adviser on Media, Publicity and Strategic Communication, Solomon Iorpev, on Sunday 15, 2026.
Recall that National Record reported on Monday, February 9 that the Police Command in Benue confirmed the kidnap of nine worshippers during worship session at Ojije in Utonkon, Ado LGA of Benue State.
In a remark, Governor Hyacinth Alia, commended security operatives for their swift response, describing the rescue as a “significant breakthrough.”
The governor assured residents that security agencies and local vigilante groups would continue to collaborate to combat kidnapping and prevent future incidents.
He also enjoined members of the public to provide timely information to help track down criminals.
Sequel to the abduction of the worshippers and other incessant attacks on communities in Benue South, the governor convened a high-level security meeting on 13 February 2026 at the Palace of the Och’Idoma in Otukpo.
The meeting brought together the Idoma Traditional Council and top security officials, where he issued a directive for the immediate rescue of the victims.
