THE BENUE State Executive Council has approved infrastructure projects worth over N149.5 billion as part of efforts to enhance economic growth and improve living standards across the state.
According to Tersoo Kula, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Hyacinth Alia, the approval was given at the council’s 4th meeting for 2025, presided over by the governor at the Government House, Makurdi.
Among the key projects is the extension and dualization of the Wurukum-Airforce Base Road at the cost of N68.3 billion.
The project, which will be executed by M/S Bahaus Global Investment Nigeria Ltd., includes the construction of a 5-span bridge at Mu and is expected to ease transportation challenges and stimulate economic activities in Makurdi and its environs.
Also approved is the upgrade of the Mbawuar to Bako-Negher and Spur to Mbaakon Road at a cost of N73.9 billion, to be handled by the same company. The project aims to improve road safety and significantly reduce travel time for commuters.
The council further approved the rehabilitation and upgrade of the Deputy Governor’s Lodge at a cost of N1.1 billion. Welltime Limited is expected to deliver the project to create a more conducive working environment for the state’s second-in-command.
In addition, the reconstruction of the Assembly Complex and Clinic was approved at N4.5 billion. Gerewa Global Engineering Ltd. Will undertake the project, which is intended to provide a modern and functional complex for lawmakers and a healthcare facility for assembly members and staff.
The council also approved the immediate payment of N1.56 billion to CGC Nigeria Ltd., a Chinese construction firm, for the Otobi/Otukpo and Katsina-Ala Water Works projects, completed nearly a decade ago.
The council also directed the Ministry of Water Resources, Environment, and Climate Change to liaise with CGC to commence rehabilitation works aimed at restoring water supply to Otobi, Otukpo, Katsina-Ala, and surrounding areas.
In a related development, the state government announced the receipt of approval from the federal government for the establishment of an Infectious Disease Control Centre in Vandeikya LGA.
The centre, requested by Governor Alia, is expected to strengthen the state’s capacity to manage and control infectious disease outbreaks.
