THE Deputy Governor of Benue State, and consensus candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for Benue Zone C, Engr Benson Abounu, has cried out over alleged Marginalisation and cheating against his candidature by the Tiv-speaking zones A and B who constitute the highest population of the state.
The frontline guber gontender expressed this concern on Monday at Government House, Makurdi in an interview with newsmen when he was reacting to PDP’s zoning of 2023 governorship position which according to him was done on the basis of ethnicity.
Reacting to the presentation of the Speaker, Hon. Titus Uba, as the Tiv consensus candidate for zones A and B, Abounu wondered why Zone B which had not indicated interest in the governorship race, was brought into the Tiv agenda to make him the consensus candidate of Zone C.
The Deputy Governor said he felt marginalised, cheated and discriminated against on the basis of ethnicity.
As more aspirants and the general masses continue to express displeasure over the consensus issue especially the emergence of Hon. Uba, analysts have observed that primary elections will be a better alternative to allow people make their choice and to keep the umbrella party united.
