BENUE State has clinched second position in the presidential schools debate held in Kwara State recently.
The Strategic Management Officer, Dr Eunice Bosua, disclosed this Wednesday when she presented the trophy to the Acting Executive Chairman of the Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Mr Mzaga Iorhemba, at the Board’s headquarters in Makurdi, Benue State capital.
Dr Bosua said Benue came second after the defending champions, Kwara State, by virtue of their excellent performance by its intelligent students who participated in the debate.
She said Taraba and Katsina states took 3rd and 4th positions respectively.
According to her, the presidential debate started during the administration of former president Olusegun Obasanjo when he decided that there should be such a debate to build the intellectual capacity of students and to strengthen unity, saying the debate brought together children from all parts of the country in order to build a better Nigeria.

She appealed to the SUBEB chairman to use his good office and support the children to travel to Singapore.
Receiving the trophy, the SUBEB Acting Executive Chairman, Mr Mzaga Iorhemba, assured that the state government under Governor Hyacinth Alia would support the children to travel to Singapore as according to him, the governor has passion for education “and education encompasses everything that took place in the competition”.
SUBEB’s Director of Academic Services, Mr Wilfred Gbatsorun, appreciated the contingents for doing Benue proud as well as the presidential team for bringing the trophy to the board.
Recall that Benue State representatives; Government Secondary School (GSS), Gboko clinched 3rd position in the just concluded zonal quiz competition on Legislature and Democracy for Secondary Schools in Nigeria earlier this month.
