THE Lagos State Police Command has arraigned 31-year-old Mrs Fortune Nwankwo for allegedly murdering her house maid, 19-year-old Ms Joy Okom Adole.
Mrs Nwankwo was arraigned on Wednesday, 29th April, 2020 before Senior Magistrate Ojo at Yaba Magistrates’ Court, Lagos. Counsel to the family of the deceased, Barrister Benjamin Ogbu, told National Record that Mrs Nwankwo was arraigned for murder by beating to death the deceased.
Senior Magistrate Ojo remanded Mrs Nwankwo at the Lagos State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service and adjourned the matter to Monday, June 1, 2020 for advice from the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
Last week, the Lagos State Command of the Nigerian Police detained Mrs Nwankwo and her husband, Mr Stephen Nwankwo, over the death of Ms Adole who was said to have been beaten to death on Sunday, 19th April, 2020 at of the residence of the Nkwankwos in Gbagada, Lagos.
National Record gathered that the spouse were taken into custody at the Lagos State CID, Alagbon where they had gone to report the death as suicide by hanging. The police, suspecting of foul play after visiting the crime scene at the Nkwankwo’s residence, however decided to treat husband and wife as primary suspects when they discovered that the suicide-by-hanging story appeared not convincing as the deceased’s two legs were firmly on the floor as she hung on the noose from the ceiling.
