A U.S. official said its forces struck two Iranian launchers on Iran’s Larak Island on Sunday, marking the first known American strikes on Iran since late July.
Iranian media said Tehran responded to the U.S. attack on rocket launchers on its island of Larak with an assault on two U.S. bases in Jordan, while the army said it struck the UAE’s Al Minhad air base early on Monday.
However, the UAE’s defense ministry dismissed the reports of the air base attack as false.
The UAE’s defense ministry later said in a statement that its air force engaged a drone over its territorial waters that had come from Iran.
U.S. President Donald Trump posted an AI-generated video clip and declared that Iran’s oil hub Kharg Island was under attack, which an Iranian official dismissed as “laughable.”
“Kharg Island being blown to smithereens!!! President DJT,” Trump had said on his Truth Social platform on Sunday – with no further details.
Several hours after the post, there was no evidence Kharg had been attacked.
The White House and the U.S. Defense Department did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for comment outside regular business hours.
Kharg handled 90% of Iran’s oil exports before the war launched by U.S. and Israeli attacks on February 28, and attacking it would severely disrupt energy trade and put huge pressure on the economy.
