THE CHIEF Press Secretary to the Benue State Governor, Tersoo Kula, has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that a new Vice Chancellor has been appointed for Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi (MOAUM).
In a statement issued on Monday, Kula clarified that the process of appointing a substantive Vice Chancellor for MOAUM is still ongoing and has not been concluded.
“The process for the appointment of a new Vice Chancellor for Father Adasu University, Makurdi, is ongoing. It must be completed and a public announcement of the new helmsman shall be made by the Visitor to the University, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia,” the statement read in part.
He explained that the university currently has an Acting Vice Chancellor in place and advised the public to disregard any unverified information suggesting otherwise.
“The public is therefore to note and disregard any unfounded rumour,” the statement added.
The clarification followed reports in social media platform, especially Facebook, claiming that Rev. Fr. Prof. Vitalis Torwel, a Catholic priest of St. Aloysius Parish, Iorhom, Makurdi, and a kinsman of Governor Alia from Vandeikya LGA, had been appointed as the new Vice Chancellor.
A source from the university told National Record that Prof. Joe Tor Iorpuu had completed his tenure as Vice Chancellor, while the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Simon Ubwa, also served out his term.
The source further disclosed that Prof. Torwel was reportedly asked to act for two weeks pending the election of a substantive Vice Chancellor.
