NATION-BUILDING is a gradual process, not a one-time event. Since 1999, we’ve made strides in sustaining democracy, which is an achievement in itself, even if progress has been slow. Let’s not forget that the true drivers of progress in any democracy are ordinary citizens, the working masses who bear the brunt of misrule, wrong policies, corruption of the ruling elites, and the neoliberal policies. It is the resistance of the working masses that brings about a better nation.
The Nigerian working masses should not be complicit in the destruction of their lives. The civil society, trade union movement, leadership of market women and farmers associations, should assist to mobilise, educate, and harness the energy of ordinary working people, otherwise the ruling elite will continue to exploit them, buying their support with minimal incentives to further their own selfish interests.
Peter Obi’s political philosophy is rooted in his strong advocacy for good governance, transparency, accountability, prudent financial management, economic and financial reform and investing in critical areas like education and healthcare. He believes that public office is public trust, and leaders must prioritise the welfare of the people.
In today’s Nigeria, gubernatorial vote is valued between ₦10,000 to ₦20,000. The stake will be higher in 2027. The destiny of Nigeria is currently hanging on the wall waiting for the highest bidder.

The ruling elites often find ways to capture state resources and institutions for personal gain. Since the state wields significant power and economic influence, whoever controls its levers of power stands to reap immense benefits. This explains why gaining access to power is often seen as a divine blessing by those who succeed.
God is not in the business of empowering wrongdoing. The political elite often thrive due to the masses’ ignorance and apathy. It’s a stark reality that people’s blind spots can become opportunities for those who seek power and control.
A functioning democracy requires more than just its institutions; it needs active citizens who demand accountability and good governance. In Nigeria, the working masses must rise up against the scourge of political thuggery, electoral malpractices, fake promises and other anomalies that undermine our democracy. The gullibility and apathy of the masses enable the elites to manipulate and exploit them. It’s astonishing that people continue to swallow the same false promises and bribery tactics election after election, without rising up to demand change. It’s as if they’re hypnotised in a cycle of self-destruction.

Peter Obi’s 2023 campaign showed the world that black Africa can respond to sound developmental arguments. Unlike traditional politics, where loyalty is often built on tribal, religious, or sectarian lines – or even bought – Obi’s movement is driven by people contributing to a shared cause. This shift in narrative gives hope that a new Nigeria is possible, where citizens rally around a vision for progress rather than mere handouts.

Corrupt leaders often prioritise personal gain over public welfare, which can hinder a nation’s development and exacerbate poverty. Corruption undermines efforts to alleviate poverty and achieve sustainable development.

By streamlining government expenditure, he aims to free up resources for meaningful development projects.

We invite Nigeria’s working-class masses to join us in this movement, which offers hope for our collective redemption. Unlike those who flock to corrupt politicians for handouts, we stand by a leader who embodies integrity. A clean leader inspires others to follow suit – only a corruption-free leader can bring about positive change.
