A WOMAN displaced by suspected herders’ attacks in Gwer West LGA of Benue State has been transferred to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), now known as Moses Adasu University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi, for advanced medical care after delivering quadruplets last Saturday.
According to the Honourable Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Hon. Aondowase Kunde, the woman gave birth at home on Saturday evening and was initially taken to Naka General Hospital before being transferred to the teaching hospital on Sunday.
The move followed the directive of His Excellency, Governor Hyacinth Alia, to ensure she receives optimal care.
The transition was coordinated by the Chairman of Gwer West LGA, Hon. Ormin Victor Torsar, with the Commissioner personally receiving her at the hospital.
Also present to welcome the mother and her four new-borns were the Honourable Commissioner for Education and Knowledge Management, Dr. Frederick Ikyaan, alongside other senior government officials.
Addressing journalists, Hon. Kunde underscored that the transfer reflects the state government’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of the family.
He refuted social media reports alleging that the woman had been abandoned by the state or had delivered the babies in an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp.
Hon. Kunde clarified that the government had been aware of the situation prior to the circulation of such claims and had already initiated necessary interventions.
He further stated that while the woman is indeed a displacement victim, she was not residing in any officially recognized IDP camp.
“Contrary to misleading reports on social media, she was never in a camp. Many of these claims are inaccurate,” the Commissioner emphasized.
He reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the Alia-led administration to delivering timely humanitarian aid, particularly to vulnerable women and children across Benue State.
