RESIDENTS of Yewa North LGA in Ogun State celebrated as Dangote Cement’s Ibese plant donated multi-million-naira electrical materials to restore electricity to 21 communities after over three years of total blackout.
The intervention came after prolonged negotiations between the cement plant’s management, community leaders, and the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).
The donated materials, valued at over N100 million, will enable IBEDC to reconnect the affected areas to the national grid.
During the handover ceremony at the Ibese Police Station, Ibese Plant Director Roy Uttam stated that the donation reflected the company’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and sustainable community development.
He urged residents to safeguard the installations against vandalism, emphasizing that such infrastructure should typically be provided by the electricity distribution company.
Traditional leaders, including the Olu of Imasayi, Oba Lukman Kuoye, and the Aboro of Ibeseland, Oba Rotimi Mulero, commended Dangote Cement for its timely intervention.
They pledged community cooperation in protecting the electrical infrastructure and warned against sabotage.
IBEDC’s Technical Engineer for the Sango Business Hub, Engr. Ayodeji Taiwo, assured stakeholders that reconnection efforts would be completed within four to six weeks.
Meanwhile, the Ogun West Youth Council presented a letter of appreciation to Dangote Cement for mitigating the prolonged power crisis.
Hon. Adegoke Adeyanju, the communities’ representative in the Ogun State House of Assembly, also expressed gratitude, promising legislative support to ensure IBEDC fulfills its obligations.
The donation marks Dangote Cement’s second major intervention in resolving the region’s electricity challenges.
