PRESIDENT Donald Trump’s approval rating remained unchanged this week, but public dissatisfaction increased over his handling of the economy and immigration amid concerns about a global trade war and stricter deportation policies, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll.
The three-day poll, completed on Sunday, found that 42% of respondents approved of Trump’s job performance — unchanged from the previous week’s survey.
Meanwhile, 53% disapproved, also steady from the prior poll. His current approval is down from 47% shortly after his January 20 inauguration.
Support for Trump’s economic policies dipped slightly, with 36% approving — the lowest level of his term — while disapproval rose 5 points to 56%.
Recent tariff hikes and fears of a recession have unsettled businesses and investors.
Inflation remains a key concern, with 59% disapproving of Trump’s handling of rising costs, compared to 32% who approved.

On immigration, 45% backed his approach — his highest-rated issue — but disapproval inched up 2 points to 48%.
Trump has deployed troops to the southern border and vowed mass deportations, drawing criticism from Democrats and rights groups over aggressive enforcement.
When asked about the country’s top challenges, 26% cited political extremism and threats to democracy, up from 20% in January, while 22% named the economy and 11% pointed to immigration.

The poll surveyed 1,029 U.S. adults and had a margin of error of 3 percentage points.
