THE BENUE State Government has condemned Senator Abba Moro’s motion calling for the suspension of federal allocations to local councils in the state, describing it as misguided and politically motivated.
The Senate Minority Leader, like his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Benue State had rejected the outcome of the recently conducted local elections in the state, arguing that the exercise was not in anyway close to transparency and lacked integrity.
In a statement on Friday by Governor Alia’s Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, the government accused Moro of attempting to undermine the democratic process and discredit the recent local government elections held on October 5.
The statement noted that the elections conducted by the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC) were credible and violence-free, contrary to Moro’s claims.
“The senator’s characterisation of the elections as a ‘charade’ is unfounded and driven by personal vendetta rather than genuine concern for democracy,” the statement read.
The government also criticised Moro’s colleagues, Senators Emmanuel Udende and Titus Zam, for supporting the motion, saying their actions prioritise discrediting Governor Alia’s administration over addressing constituents’ needs.
The statement further alleged that Moro’s motion is part of a larger conspiracy to destabilise governance in Benue State, fueled by “an Abuja-based mafia”.
