“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6)

WELCOME to the month of June, 2024. I decree and declare that as you begin to trust the Lord in every area of your life, all forms of fear, anxiety and disappointment shall be arrested; and you shall see the salvation, preservation and provisions of the Lord, throughout this Month and beyond, in Jesus Name.

What does it mean to trust God?

To trust is to believe in the reliability, truth, durability, capability, power or strength of something. So, when it comes to trusting God, that means, believing in His reliability, His Word, His durability, His capability, His Power and His strength.

The Bible says that God cannot lie (Titus 1:2). He always keeps to His promises; He loves you and has good in store for you. Trusting in Him means believing what He says about Himself, about the World and about you is true.

Look out for the things God has done for you in the past and appreciate Him for them. A grateful heart is therapeutic (Proverbs 15:13, 15; 17:22). Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God, in Christ Jesus, concerning you (1Thess 5:16-18).

Trusting God is more than a feeling; it is a choice to have faith in what He says, even when your feelings or circumstances would have you believe something different. Your feelings and circumstances matters and are very much worth paying attention to. God cares about them all. But those things alone are not reliable enough to base your life on. They can change at any moment, even in an instant. God on the other hand, does not change. He is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8). Therefore, He is worthy of your trust.

Trusting in God is not about ignoring your feelings or reality. It is not pretending that everything is okay when it isn’t. Trusting God is living a life of belief in and obedience to God, even when it is difficult.

How to trust God:

Now that you know what it means to trust God, how exactly can you do that in your everyday life?

1. Seek the truth in His word: The Word of God is a sure word of prophesy (2Peter 1:19) and assurance. This is where to go to, when you feel unsure and burdened, as with the cares of this life (Matthew 11:28-30).

2. Cast all your cares upon Him: Knowing that He cares for you and you can run to Him for safety and rescue enhances your faith in His ability to deliver (1Peter 5:7; Matthew 11:28-30).

3. Confess unbelief: Be honest. Allow God to remind you who He is and what He promises, and tell Him how you feel and in what areas of your life you are struggling to trust Him. The man in the book of Mark 9:24 exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief.”

4. Share your concerns with others: You are not facing difficult times alone. Paul shared his concerns with Philemon as an encouragement. “I pray that your partnership with us in the faith may be effective in deepening your understanding of every good thing we share for the said Christ” (Philemon 1:6) NIV.

5. Spend time in His presence: God is bigger than your circumstances. Spend regular time with God in prayers and set your eyes on things that are bigger than your circumstances (Philippians 3:14; Colossians 3:2)

6. Look for things to be grateful For: Look out for the things God has done for you in the past and appreciate Him for them. A grateful heart is therapeutic (Proverbs 15:13, 15; 17:22). Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God, in Christ Jesus, concerning you (1Thess 5:16-18).

7. Walk in the spirit: Don’t allow the flesh to rule and dominate your life. Walking in the Spirit will energize your faith to trust Him the more. The Holy Spirit is our advocate and intercessor (John 14:26; 1John 2:1)

8. Wait on the Lord: Your capacity and ability to trust God is enhanced when you wait on Him. Your strength is also renewed (Isaiah 40:31)

How do we trust Him?

We should trust Him with all of our hearts and not to lean on our own understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6).

Don’t trust your abilities, wisdom and connections. They are bound to fail and are also limited.

Biblical examples of those who trusted God:

2. Job: He refused to turn his back on God according the counsels from his wife and friends. He waited on God until his change came (Job 13:15; 14:14).

3. Ruth: Her trust in God brought her from an iniquitous and incestuous tribe to the tribe and lineage of our Lord Jesus Christ (Ruth 2:12).

4. Hezekiah: His trust in the Lord enabled him to conquer nations, prospered whithersoever he went. It was recorded that there was none like him among all the Kings of Judah, nor any that were before him (2Kings 18:5-6).

5. David: David fought Sixty-Six (66) battles and lost none as a result of his trust in God’s faithfulness (Psalm 7:1; 11:1; 13:5; 16:1; 18:2; 20:7).
