THE EXECUTIVE Chairperson, Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr Grace Adagba, has warned zonal officers, accountants and educational secretaries against padding teachers’ salaries.
Dr Adagba frowned at the fraudulent act on Friday during her first meeting with SUBEB officials at the Board’s headquarters in Makurdi, Benue State capital.
The executive chairperson, who said her caution followed a report received by the board, tasked the officials to go back and check their payroll system to ensure that what they are doing corresponds with what SUBEB is giving them.
She stressed that if the salaries of staff in their various local government areas is short by one kobo, they will not only be made to pay but they will also be relieved of their duties immediately.
“If we find that salaries of staff in your local governments are short by one kobo, we will not only make you to pay for it, but you will also be relieved of your duty immediately,” Dr Adagba stressed as she tasked the education secretaries to submit the staff nominal rolls alongside staff payroll which they used to pay salaries in December signed by both the education secretary and accountant.

She stated that the deadline for submission is Friday, January 5, 2024. She also noted that statements of account should be printed, stamped and brought to the board latest Friday, January 5, 2023 for further directives.
She assured that as soon as funds are available, dilapidated Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs) across the state will be fixed to enable staff work in a favourable condition for optimum productivity.
In his remarks, Board Secretary, Dr Joseph Jande, solicited support from zonal officers, accountants and educational secretaries to enable SUBEB to function better and make progress.
