SOME yet to be identified gunmen stormed the residence of Matthew Abo, Benue State Commissioner of Information, Culture and Tourism, in Zaki-Biam, Ukum LGA of Benue State, and kidnapped him at about 8pm on Sunday.
An eyewitness confided in National Record that the kidnappers who came on four motorcycles ordered everyone in the house, including the commissioner’s wife and children, to lie and face down during which they took him away to an unknown destination on one of the motorcycles.

According to the eyewitness, the abductors compelled the commissioner at gunpoint to sit behind the rider of one of the motorcycles while a gunman sat behind the abductee.
Although Benue State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Superintendent of Police (SP) Sewuese Anene, was yet to confirm the incident to newsmen even as she was contacted since 10pm on Sunday, our source said the matter was reported to the police.
Abo, who was sworn in as a member of the Benue State Executive Council on August 29, 2023, hails from Ukum LGA.

Ukum has been a major flashpoint of criminal activities with rampant killings and kidnappings in recent times.
