THE PEOPLES Democratic Party (PDP) has declared that it is fully prepared to conduct credible and transparent primaries at all levels ahead of the 2027 general elections, while also extending an olive branch to members who had previously left the party.
At the party’s 108th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held at the reconstituted Wadata Plaza national secretariat in Abuja, National Chairman, Abdulraman Mohammed, assured members that the primaries would produce candidates endearing to Nigerians.
He commended party leaders and members for their loyalty during the party’s crisis period, stating that discipline and belief in the process had not only preserved the PDP’s soul but also repositioned it for a stronger future.
“Today, we gather not as a party in distress, but as a strong political institution,” Mohammed said. “The era of uncertainty is behind us. The era of strategy, consolidation and electoral preparation has begun today.”
He emphasised that the PDP would conduct primaries in strict compliance with the Electoral Act and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) guidelines, producing candidates who reflect the will of members and the aspirations of Nigerians.
In his remarks, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and PDP national leader, Nyesom Wike, called on the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led National Working Committee (NWC) to continue reconciliation efforts, stressing that there is still room for defectors to return.
“It will be nonsense to say those who have defected, let them go. No,” Wike said, adding: “There is still room for them to come back, and whatever is due to them, they will still have it.”
He noted that most defectors left due to uncertainty, but with the party now back on track, a rethink is possible.
Wike reaffirmed his loyalty to the PDP, having been a member since 1998, and congratulated the NWC for reclaiming Wadata Plaza, describing it as proof of the party’s authentic leadership. On pending court cases, he expressed confidence in the party’s legal team.
Earlier, the National Chairman echoed the call for unity, stating that the party leadership was already reaching out to aggrieved members for genuine reconciliation.
Senate Minority Leader, Sen. Abba Moro, declared the PDP crisis over, while Board of Trustees Chairman, Sen. Mao Ohuabunwa, pledged the board’s support, emphasising the need for inclusion and deeper cohesion.
Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Kingsley Chinda, also pledged PDP lawmakers’ loyalty to the party.
